Drop shipping is the process where you act as a business market and offer products to your customer, but you are not the manufacturer of the merchandise and you don’t even hold the item at your location. You simply show that it is available for purchase, which can be done via your own website, eBay, classifies ads or social networking – anywhere there us a potential customer.
When a customer wants to make a purchase, you take their money and then in turn place and order with your supplier. It is then your wholesale supplier’s job to dig out the item in their warehouse, pack it up and deliver it directly to your customer. As you can see, you never actually get to see or touch the product in question; you simply act as a middleman in the transaction.
The way that you make profit from drop shipping is that you will charge your customer a higher price than you are paying your supplier. This means that the difference in price is the profit that you make from the sale.
So why are dropship services so popular? Well, often it is because you are able to sell items which you wouldn’t normally have the ability to stock. They may be bulky or just too expensive to stock in a regular situation, but because you don’t have any outlay before making the sale, you don’t have to worry about these issues.
Of course, one of the other great things about drop shipping is that you can offer many more items than you could afford to stock. This means that you can effectively act as though you are a major department store, without your customer realizing that you are a small home business.
The major concern with dropshipping services is utilizing a bad company. You need to take care when selecting wholesale suppliers that you are using someone who is reliable and will do what they say. If you have any doubts at all, you should take time to call their customer support that will be happy to reassure you.
Your wholesale supplier is the way that you make money in drop shipping, and if you don’t use a good quality one, you’re business is doomed from the start.
