When you initially join the business of wholesale sourcing and locating drop shipping companies, you will probably see that there are many scam artists out there and you need to use your head when you try to decide which companies you want to work with and which ones you should try to avoid. Let’s look at some advice that can help you buy wholesale goods from genuine suppliers and know that you are getting a great deal.
1. The main reason that you should be acquiring wholesale goods is that you are a seller that wants to sell wholesale merchandise for a profit. Many wholesale sources will ask you for business credentials to allow them to give you access to the lowest possible prices, so if you don’t already have these arranged, you should consider doing so immediately.
2. Whenever you find wholesale suppliers offering brand name items, especially electronics, at unrealistically low prices you should proceed with caution. Often these offers are simply scams – especially if the company is overseas. We will cover how to buy wholesale from overseas later.
3. Be wary of wholesale suppliers that charge you a fee to see their prices. Unless they are providing a service, such as a centralized wholesale sourcing system, for this price, you should not be charged a fee for carrying out business with them.
4. Legitimate wholesale suppliers will be more than happy to provide you with contact details for their company. If their website does display details, take the effort to make contact through the numbers and addresses provided, so that you can be confident that you are doing business with a legitimate company.
5. Beware of wholesale suppliers that only seem to stock in one item. Often, these people are simply middle men and have found a popular item that they can markup in value and make profits. When you buy wholesale items, you should be able to buy a range of items that will suit your target market for your business.
6. Give up the search for low priced computer games consoles, designer handbags, iPods and similar merchandise. These products are generally not for sale to general retailers and the companies manufacturing them have strict distribution agreements with defined outlets. If you see these products being offered for a low price, most likely they will not be available or they will be cheap replicas.
7. How to buy wholesale overseas – exercise extreme caution. Not only could you be purchasing counterfeit goods, you could also be hit with large customs import fees that can annihilate any profits you had hoped to see. Sourcing items domestically is a much better way to make profits selling wholesale sourced products.
8. Lastly, consider placing a small order at first so you can check the service of the company you are dealing with. If it turns out there is an issue, you can either ask for your money back, or consider it a good lesson learned not to deal with that business.
Buying wholesale items can have its pitfalls, but once you find a reliable and trustworthy company to deal with, you will soon see profits arriving in your bank account.

Some good tips here. I especially like #6 - it seems like everybody wants to make money selling Xbox’s and iPods on eBay, but it just isn’t realistic unless you’ve got deep pockets and can set up relationships with the big suppliers.
